Estimated savings compared with petrol
€4.32/100 km electric · €10.73/100 km petrol
Energy only. Purchase, installation, finance, insurance, maintenance and depreciation are separate. Changing currency does not convert amounts: check every price.
How it is calculated ↗The result compares energy costs
The calculator shows how annual energy spending changes between a BEV and a petrol car, under your assumptions. It does not calculate total cost of ownership. Purchase price, financing, installation, insurance, maintenance, taxes and resale value require a separate comparison.
The starting example is hypothetical: 15,000 km/year, 16 kWh/100 km, 6.5 L/100 km, home electricity at 0.20 and public charging at 0.55; petrol at 1.65. With 80% of the energy charged at home and additional energy set to 0%, the cost is 648 versus 1,608.75 euros: a difference of 960.75 euros a year.
[S28]The formula, step by step
Average electricity price = home price × home share + public price × public share. Electric energy cost/100 km = consumption × (1 + additional energy/100) × average price. Petrol cost/100 km = litres/100 km × price per litre.
Annual difference = kilometres/100 × (petrol cost − electric energy cost). A negative result means an additional cost. The share refers to energy charged, not the number of sessions. If you use certified WLTP consumption, leave the additional adjustment at zero to avoid counting losses twice.
[S28]Three checks before deciding
As a statistical reference, Eurostat puts average EU household electricity at €0.2896/kWh in the second half of 2025, including taxes. That average is neither your electricity contract nor the price at a rapid charger.
Our editorial recommendation: try a typical scenario, another using only public charging, and another with higher consumption. Use the final prices on your bill; account for subscriptions, parking and penalties outside the calculation. EUR, CNY and USD are input and output units: changing the currency does not perform a conversion.
