Compare versions, not just names

The chart uses combined WLTP consumption for seven European versions. The Model 3 RWD is listed at 12.2 kWh/100 km in the German specification sheet consulted; the ID.4 Pro Plus is listed at 16.3 in the Irish MY2024 specification sheet. This is a sample of certified figures, not a road test or an exhaustive ranking.

The year matters: a current specification sheet does not automatically describe every car sold under that name in 2025. The comparison uses a common cycle, but includes different versions and years, which are identified. Check the motor, battery, wheels and equipment before applying a figure to a particular offer.

Every kWh has a price

This example is our own calculation: a difference of 2 kWh/100 km amounts to 300 kWh over 15,000 km. At a hypothetical price of 0.30 per kWh, the annual energy cost difference is 90 in the same currency. It does not include the purchase price, insurance or maintenance.

For your budget, multiply the consumption you actually pay for by the average price of your charging. Do not infer certified consumption by dividing battery capacity by the advertised range: these quantities are measured on different bases. The JRC technical report explains that WLTP measurement includes recharging energy.

What to check in the table

The MG4 specification sheet gives 160 Wh/km for the Comfort MY2024; here it is converted to 16.0 kWh/100 km. We retain the brochure note: figures are subject to final certification. The BYD Dolphin figure refers to the Comfort 60.4 kWh in the European specification sheet from June 2025.

Our editorial suggestion is to use the chart to make a shortlist, then request the specification sheet for the exact car. When estimating costs from the on-board computer, add the energy that does not reach the battery separately; with WLTP, avoid counting those losses twice.
