Confirm the car you will use

According to EAFO, Chinese charging interfaces use GB/T for AC and DC. A brand selling cars in Europe does not mean its Chinese version has the same connector. If you rent, import or use a foreign car, request compatibility confirmation for that exact vehicle.

Our editorial approach is also to check session activation and operator support. We do not assume a physical adapter can resolve every charger and car combination. A real demonstration with the intended model offers more than a photo of the socket.

A local bill, not one price for all of China

The linked official Shanghai page presents a first household tier of 0.617 RMB/kWh and an off-peak price of 0.307, with a documentary basis from 2023. It is an example of a tiered and time-based tariff structure; we do not use it as a national figure for 2026.

To calculate your savings, request the electricity supply contract for the home and check how the car’s energy use affects it. For public charging, enter the final price of your sessions and add service or parking charges where applicable. The calculator supports CNY without converting currencies.

Make routine charging feasible

As a practical suggestion, first check where you will leave the car for several hours and who authorises installation. Request a written quote specifying the equipment, building work, electricity supply and maintenance. A building’s arrangements cannot be inferred from the scale of the Chinese market.

If you depend on public charging, test your usual route before committing to the purchase. Check the payment method you will use, availability at your usual times and an alternative. Choose a vehicle whose version, warranty and assistance match the country of use.
